Hotel – Sofitel Recoleta, Buenos Aires

Sofitel Recoleta

This is a short review of a one-night stay in the Sofitel Recoleta, in Buenos Aires.

The context was a little special, so it won’t be a complete review.

I had booked a Ponant cruise to the Antarctic, and this was the “pre-cruise” hotel in Buenos Aires. Passengers were welcomed in more than one hotel, before flying down to Ushuaia to board the cruise ship Le Lyrial.

This hotel is in Calle Posadas, and before the cruise package I was staying in a hotel just down the road (the Meliã Recoleta). So it was a quick $3 Uber to move me and my luggage from one hotel to the other.

Check-in was organised by the cruise company.

The room

Sofitel room

The room was “classic”, but welcoming. It might have missed a few little details because of the cruise group booking, but the fridge was well stocked, and water was offered on both bedside tables. I appreciated the little one-use slip-on room slippers.

I would have two criticisms. The first was that the coffee-tea offering was not particularly inviting, and I would have like to see a Nespresso machine with some capsules.

The second criticism was that the small suitcase table-stand had a vertical backing making it impossible to open a medium sized (or large) suitcase. Ideal for a bag or carry-on suitcase, but not for anything bigger. Travellers would have to use the desktop, the bed or the sitting chair, to fully open a larger sized suitcase.

The bathroom

The first impression was of a large opulent bathroom, with an impressive looking shower.

Some of the usual bathroom amenities were probably missing, but there was shampoo, shower gel, and conditioner in the shower. The towels were good, and there was also a facecloth, which was appreciated.

Overall impression

Sofitel view

The view from the room was probably one of the better ones in Buenos Aires, and it was certainly better than the one I found in the Meliã Recoleta.

Wi-fi was offered, but at times it was a little “flaky”.

Information on breakfast and checkout, etc. are included in Day 1 of my cruise report.

Would I stay in this hotel again? No, I much preferred my stay in the Hotel Palladio, see report.
